About these nouns worksheets

A noun names a person, place, animal or thing. These worksheets start with spotting nouns in simple sentences, then sort nouns into people, places, animals and things, and move on to plurals (box → boxes, child → children), proper nouns that need capital letters, and collective nouns like a flock of sheep.

What the worksheet covers

The question bank for this topic has 12 find-the-word sentences, 8 choose-the-right-word sentences, 12 items to sort and 5 multiple-choice questions. Each worksheet mixes a selection, so no two are the same.

  • Question types: multiple choice, circle the words, choose the right word, sort the words.
  • Best for: grades 1–4 (ages 6–10).

Teaching tips

  • Ask “can I put “the” or “a” in front of it?” as a quick noun test.
  • Collect nouns from a picture: everything you can see is a noun.

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between a common and a proper noun?

A common noun names any one of a kind (city, river, girl). A proper noun names a particular one (Mumbai, the Ganga, Priya) and always starts with a capital letter.

Is there an answer key?

Yes. Every worksheet ends with an answer key on its own page. Switch it off if you’re giving the sheet as a test.

Can I print it in black and white?

Yes. The worksheet uses light tints that print clearly in grey, or pick the grey colour theme.

What age is this worksheet for?

Grades 1–4 (ages 6–10). The questions use plain language and avoid trick wording.

Can I choose the kinds of questions?

Yes. Switch each section on or off (matching, fill in the blanks, true or false, multiple choice and more) and choose how many questions go in each.
