About the sight words game

A memory game made of sight words: turn over two cards and read each word aloud. When the words match, keep the pair. Children read every word many times in one game, which is exactly what sight words need.

Start with 4–6 pairs for young children and build up.

Frequently asked questions

Which list should I start with?

Pre-primer words for ages 4–5, primer for kindergarten, and the first, second and third grade lists as reading develops.

How do memory and matching modes differ?

In memory mode cards start face down and you remember where they are; in matching mode they’re face up, so it’s purely about knowing the answer.

Can I print the cards?

Yes. “Download cards PDF” prints every pair in the sight words game as cut-out cards, 20 per A4 page.

Does it work on phones and classroom screens?

Yes. Cards resize to the screen and are big enough to tap; on a projector, students can take turns to pick.

Is anything saved or shared?

No. The game runs in your browser and nothing you type or play is stored or sent anywhere.
