About the pattern game generator

Every pattern is generated fresh, so children never run out. Easy patterns repeat two things (AB, AAB); medium ones repeat three (ABC, AABB); hard ones use four-part units and counting patterns that go up, down or double. After each answer, the rule is shown so children can see why.

Number patterns practise skip counting by 2s, 5s and 10s and beyond; letter patterns skip through the alphabet.

Frequently asked questions

Why are patterns important in maths?

Spotting and extending patterns is the root of algebra: it’s how children learn that a rule can predict what comes next.

Is the pattern game generator free?

Yes. There’s no signup, and nothing you type or play is stored or sent anywhere.

Can I print it in black and white?

Yes. Text activities print clearly in black and white; colour patterns need a colour printer or crayons.

Does it work on tablets and phones?

Yes. Everything is tap-to-select, so it works with fingers as well as a mouse.

Is there an answer key?

Yes. Printed worksheets include an answer key on the last page, and the on-screen game checks answers for you.
