About these 3d shapes worksheets
Solid shapes have faces (surfaces), edges (where faces meet) and vertices (corners). Each drawing shows hidden edges as dashed lines. Students name the solid and count its faces, edges and vertices.
Curved surfaces are counted as faces in the answer key, which is the convention in most primary schools; some teachers count only flat faces.
Settings you can change
Each sheet has 7 questions by default (from 4 to 14), a name, date and score line, and an answer key on a separate page. Best for grades 1–5 (ages 6–11).
Teaching tips
- Handle real objects: a dice, a tin, an ice-cream cone.
- Use Euler’s rule for polyhedra: F + V − E = 2.
- Talk about which solids roll and which stack.
New questions every time
The questions are written by rules on your device, not picked from a fixed sheet, so every tap of “New worksheet” gives a different set. Nothing is uploaded. Explore all math worksheets.
Frequently asked questions
How many faces does a cylinder have?
Two flat faces and one curved surface. Many schools say 3 faces; others say 2 faces and 1 curved surface.
What is the worksheet code?
Every sheet prints a short code. Typing the same code with the same settings rebuilds exactly the same questions, so you can reprint a sheet later or share the code with another teacher.
Does every worksheet come with an answer key?
Yes. The answers print on a separate page at the end of the PDF. Switch “Answer key” off if you only want the questions.
Which grades are these worksheets for?
Grades 1–5 (ages 6–11), depending on the settings you choose. Switch on “Big print” for younger children.
Can I make a different 3d shapes worksheet for each student?
Yes. Tap “New worksheet” for a fresh set of questions with the same settings. Each sheet has its own answer key, so you can hand out different versions.
