About these area worksheets
Area is the space inside a shape, measured in square units. Beginners count squares on a grid, including composite L-shapes; then students use length × width for rectangles; older students find triangle (½ × base × height) and parallelogram (base × height) areas.
Settings you can change
Each sheet has 9 questions by default (from 4 to 18), a name, date and score line, and an answer key on a separate page. Best for grades 2–7 (ages 7–13).
- Type: Count squares, Rectangles (length × width), Triangles and parallelograms.
- Unit: cm, m, in, ft.
Teaching tips
- Mark each square as you count it.
- Write units as cm² (square centimetres).
- A triangle is half of a rectangle with the same base and height.
New questions every time
The questions are written by rules on your device, not picked from a fixed sheet, so every tap of “New worksheet” gives a different set. Nothing is uploaded. Explore all math worksheets.
Frequently asked questions
Can I print area and perimeter together?
Use the area page and the perimeter page with the same settings, or ask students to find both for the rectangles.
Can I make a different area worksheet for each student?
Yes. Tap “New worksheet” for a fresh set of questions with the same settings. Each sheet has its own answer key, so you can hand out different versions.
Which grades are these worksheets for?
Grades 2–7 (ages 7–13), depending on the settings you choose. Switch on “Big print” for younger children.
Does every worksheet come with an answer key?
Yes. The answers print on a separate page at the end of the PDF. Switch “Answer key” off if you only want the questions.
What is the worksheet code?
Every sheet prints a short code. Typing the same code with the same settings rebuilds exactly the same questions, so you can reprint a sheet later or share the code with another teacher.
