Keep the detail, lose the bulk
1 MB is a comfortable budget. Even high-resolution phone photos of 8–15 MB usually fit at full size with high JPG quality, so you lose nothing you’d notice, even when zooming in. Atifo only reduces dimensions in rare cases, such as very large panoramas.
Reduce image size to 1 MB: compress a photo to 1 MB, get a JPG to 1 MB, or keep a photo under 1 MB.
Where 1 MB limits appear
- Visa, passport and immigration portals that accept photos and scans up to 1 MB.
- University and scholarship applications with document uploads.
- Email, where many large photos can exceed attachment limits or fill the recipient’s inbox.
- Websites and content systems that reject uploads above 1 MB.
Large batches
Add up to 50 photos at once. They are processed one after another, which keeps memory use low on phones, with a progress bar and a cancel button. Each comes out named after the original, with “under-1mb” added.
When the original already fits
If a JPG is already under 1 MB and no resize is set, Atifo hands you the original file unchanged, so photos are never re-saved without reason.
PDFs too
For a document that’s a PDF, use Compress PDF to 1 MB. To bring several photos together in one document, use JPG to PDF.

Will my photo keep its resolution?
Almost always. Even 48-megapixel phone photos typically fit under 1 MB at full or close-to-full size with high JPG quality.
Which forms ask for images under 1 MB?
Visa and passport portals, university applications, insurance claims and many websites with upload limits. It’s also a comfortable size for email.
How long does it take?
A few seconds per photo on most phones. Large batches are processed one at a time, with a progress bar and a cancel button.
My photo is already under 1 MB. What happens?
If it’s a JPG that already fits and no resize is set, you get the original back unchanged.
