How to compress an image to 20 KB

  1. 1

Choose your scanned signature or passport-style photo.

  2. 2

Keep 20 KB selected and JPG as the format.

  3. 3

If the form gives pixel sizes (e.g. 140 × 60 for a signature), switch on “Set exact dimensions” and type them.

  4. 4

Tap “Compress to 20 KB” and download the file marked “Under 20 KB ✓”.

Where 20 KB limits come from

Government recruitment and exam forms often set the tightest limits on the smallest files: a scanned signature of 10–20 KB, and sometimes a thumb impression or a small photo under 20 KB. They’re designed for the tiny images printed on admit cards, so the portal doesn’t need more.

Reduce a photo to 20 KB (or resize an image to 20 KB) for exam forms: a JPG under 20 KB is often needed for a signature. A signature at 20 KB is usually still clear.

Getting a clean 20 KB signature

  • Sign in the middle of a plain white sheet with a dark pen. Thick, dark strokes survive compression better than thin pencil lines.
  • Photograph it in daylight, straight on, without shadows.
  • Crop tightly around the signature, so there’s no empty paper wasting kilobytes.
  • If the form specifies pixels, such as 140 × 60, switch on “Set exact dimensions”.

Photos at 20 KB

A face photo at the usual form size of around 200 × 230 pixels fits in 20 KB with good detail. A full phone photo doesn’t, so Atifo reduces its dimensions automatically until it fits. If you’re making the photo from scratch, use the passport photo maker first to frame it correctly.

Check before you submit

Zoom into the downloaded image. Your face or signature should be clear, without blocky edges. If it isn’t, crop away more background and try again.

Frequently asked questions

Can a photo really fit in 20 KB and stay clear?

Yes, at the sizes forms expect. A face photo of about 200 × 230 pixels fits easily at good quality. A full-resolution phone photo can’t, so Atifo also reduces its dimensions to reach 20 KB.

What’s the best way to scan a signature for a 20 KB limit?

Sign with a black or dark-blue pen on plain white paper, photograph it in good light, then crop tightly around the signature before compressing. Less empty paper means more detail within 20 KB.

The portal says “10–20 KB”. Will the file be too small?

Atifo aims just under your target with the highest quality that fits, so results usually land between 15 and 20 KB. If a portal needs at least 10 KB, that range works.

Why does Atifo use 1 KB = 1,000 bytes?

It’s the stricter reading. A file under 20,000 bytes is also under 20 KB for portals that count 1 KB as 1,024 bytes, so your upload won’t be rejected by a few bytes.
