The bright box shows what you’ll keep. Drag inside it to move it and pull the round handles to resize. The rule-of-thirds grid helps you place the subject off-centre, which usually looks more natural. Everything outside the box is dimmed so you can judge the result before saving.

Crop a photo online with this image cropper: crop a picture to any shape, or crop an image to square for profile pictures.

Shapes for every use

  • 1:1 for profile pictures and square posts
  • 4:5 for portrait posts in feeds
  • 3:4 and 4:3 for prints and classic photo shapes
  • 16:9 and 9:16 for widescreen images, thumbnails, stories and reels
  • Original keeps the photo’s own shape while you trim it

Exact numbers

Type a width and height in pixels when a form or website needs a precise size. The box stays centred on the same spot. To then scale the cropped image to a different size, follow up with Resize image.

Quality

Cropping doesn’t scale your image: the pixels you keep are copied exactly. PNGs stay lossless and JPGs are saved at high quality. Choose a different output format under “Save as” if you need one.

Accessibility

The crop box works with a keyboard too. Tab to it, then use the arrow keys to move it (Shift for bigger steps) and + or − to resize it.

Frequently asked questions

Can I crop to an exact pixel size?

Yes. Type the width and height under the image. With a fixed shape such as 1:1, typing one number sets the other.

Does cropping reduce quality?

No. The pixels you keep are copied exactly; the image isn’t scaled. JPGs are saved at high quality, and PNGs are lossless.

Can I use the keyboard?

Yes. Tab to the crop box, then use the arrow keys to move it (hold Shift for bigger steps) and + or − to make it larger or smaller.

Which shape should I use for social media?

1:1 for square posts and profile pictures, 4:5 for portrait feed posts, 9:16 for stories and reels, and 16:9 for video thumbnails and widescreen images.
