Resumes and short reports

Job portals and recruitment forms often cap resumes and cover letters at around 300 KB. Most resumes are text, but a profile photo, a designed template or a scan of a signed page can push them well past the limit. Short reports and portfolios with a few images land in the same range.

Reduce a PDF to 300 KB, for example a resume PDF of 300 KB.

Keep your resume searchable

Recruiters and applicant tracking systems read the text in your resume. When a resume is over the limit because of wasted space rather than big images, Atifo’s lossless step brings it under 300 KB without touching the text, so it stays selectable and searchable. The result screen tells you when this is the case.

If the file is still too large, usually because of a high-resolution photo or a scanned page, Atifo converts pages to images at the best quality that fits. That keeps the layout exactly as designed, but the text becomes part of the image.

Get the best of both

  • Shrink the photo at the source. A profile photo of a few hundred pixels is plenty; re-export your resume with a smaller photo and it may fit losslessly.
  • Remove decorative backgrounds in your template; they add size without adding information.
  • Sign before compressing, so the final file includes everything.

Frequently asked questions

Will recruiters still be able to search my resume?

If your resume was exported from a word processor it usually fits under 300 KB losslessly, keeping text selectable for applicant tracking systems. The result screen confirms this.

My resume has a profile photo. Is that a problem?

Photos are the main reason resumes are large. At 300 KB there is room for a clear photo; if the file is still too big, Atifo reduces image detail gently.

Should I compress before or after adding a signature?

After. Sign your PDF first, then compress, so the signature is included in the final size.

Does compressing remove links in my resume?

Lossless compression keeps links. If pages must be turned into images to reach the size, links stop being clickable, so check the note on the result screen.
