How to compress a PDF to a specific size
- 1
Choose the PDF you need to upload.
- 2
Pick a target such as 100 KB or 1 MB, or enter a custom size.
- 3
Tap “Compress”. Atifo tries lossless first, then finds the best quality that fits.
- 4
Check “Under … ✓” and the preview, then download.
Built for upload limits
Online forms love size limits: under 100 KB for a certificate, under 200 KB for an ID proof, under 1 MB for a supporting document. Ordinary compressors make a file smaller by a fixed amount, which may land you at 140 KB when you needed 100. This tool works the other way around. You choose the limit, and Atifo finds the best quality that fits under it.
Unlike a general PDF size reducer, it works to a PDF target size: compress a PDF to a specific size and reduce the PDF to KB limits set by exam, job and government portals.
How the size search works
- Lossless first. Many PDFs, especially ones exported from Word or Google Docs, fit with nothing visible changed. Text stays selectable.
- Smart prediction. If that isn’t enough, Atifo renders a few sample pages and tests different resolutions and quality levels to predict which setting will land just under your target.
- Verified result. It then compresses the whole document and measures the real size. If it overshoots, it adjusts and tries again, up to three passes.
The result screen confirms the outcome with a clear “Under 100 KB ✓”, or tells you plainly when the target isn’t reachable.
When the target is too small
Some documents simply can’t shrink that far and stay readable, for example a 30-page scan aimed at 50 KB. Instead of handing you an unreadable blur, Atifo gives you the smallest readable version and suggests what will work: split the document, remove pages you don’t need, or allow black & white.
Your file stays with you
Every step happens in your browser. Nothing is uploaded, even when the target-size search runs several passes.

Frequently asked questions
How does Atifo hit an exact size?
It first tries lossless compression. If that isn’t enough, it tests quality settings on sample pages, predicts the result, then compresses and checks the real size, adjusting if needed.
What if my file can’t reach the target?
You get the smallest version that is still readable, with its exact size, plus options: split the PDF, delete pages you don’t need, or allow black & white.
Is “KB” 1,000 or 1,024 bytes?
Atifo uses 1,000 bytes, the stricter definition, so your file is under the limit whichever way the website counts.
Will text stay selectable?
Only if lossless compression is enough. Otherwise pages are saved as images to reach the size, and the result screen tells you which method was used.
Can I choose a size that isn’t listed?
Yes. Choose “Custom” and type any size in KB or MB, down to 10 KB.
