Why convert a JPG to PNG?
Most of the time a JPG is the right format for a photo. Converting to PNG makes sense when something specifically asks for it:
Works the same for JPEG to PNG.
- Editing apps and design tools that work best with lossless files, so repeated saves don’t add new compression artefacts.
- Templates and print shops that only accept PNG.
- Graphics saved as JPG by mistake, such as logos or diagrams that you’ll keep editing.
What changes and what doesn’t
The picture looks exactly the same. PNG is lossless, so the conversion adds no further loss, but it also can’t recover detail the JPG already discarded. A JPG background stays solid; converting doesn’t make it transparent.
Expect a bigger file
PNG stores every pixel exactly, so a photo converted to PNG is often three to six times larger than the JPG. That’s normal. If you need a smaller file afterwards, Compress image can shrink PNGs by reducing their colour palette.
Batch conversion
Add as many JPGs as you need, up to 50, and download them as a ZIP. Each file keeps its name with “-atifo.png” at the end.

Frequently asked questions
Will converting JPG to PNG improve quality?
No. PNG is lossless, so it won’t add any loss, but it can’t bring back detail the JPG already lost. The picture looks exactly the same.
Why is my PNG bigger than the JPG?
PNG stores every pixel exactly, while JPG is designed to shrink photos. A PNG of a photo is often 3–6 times larger. That’s normal.
Does converting to PNG make the background transparent?
No. A JPG has no transparency, so the PNG has the same solid background. PNG is useful when an app or editor needs that format.
When should I use PNG instead of JPG?
For screenshots, graphics, logos and images you will keep editing. For photos you share, JPG or WebP is smaller.
