The WebP problem
Websites serve images as WebP because the files are small and pages load faster. But when you save one of those images, you end up with a .webp file that some photo editors, older phone galleries, office apps and upload forms won’t open. Converting it to JPG solves that in seconds.

Quality settings
At the default 90%, the JPG looks the same as the WebP. If you plan to edit the image further, set the slider to 100% to avoid adding compression on top of compression.
Transparency and animation
Some WebP images have transparent backgrounds, such as product cut-outs and stickers. JPG can’t store transparency, so those areas are filled with your chosen colour. To keep transparency, use WebP to PNG. Animated WebP files are converted using their first frame.
Respect image rights
Converting changes only the format. Images from websites are usually owned by someone, so make sure you’re allowed to use an image before reusing it.

Why do images from websites save as WebP?
Websites use WebP because it’s smaller than JPG and loads faster. Some apps, older editors and upload forms don’t accept it, so converting to JPG helps.
Will I lose quality?
At 90% quality the JPG looks the same as the WebP. Raise the slider to 100% if you plan to edit it further.
What about animated WebP?
JPG can’t be animated, so the first frame is converted.
Can I convert WebP with a transparent background?
Yes. Transparent areas are filled with the colour you choose. To keep transparency, use WebP to PNG instead.
