Plan a leave
Choose the first and last day you’ll be away, your weekend and any public holidays in between. The calculator shows how many leave days the break uses, how many days you’ll be away in total, and the day you’re back at work. Enter your current balance to see what you’ll have left.
An annual leave calculator, vacation days calculator and earned leave calculator.
Example
From Monday 12 October to Friday 23 October 2026 with a Saturday–Sunday weekend, you’re away for 12 days but use only 10 leave days, and you’re back at work on Monday 26 October. Add a public holiday inside the break and it uses one leave day fewer.
Make your leave go further
Leave days only count working days, so breaks built around weekends and public holidays give the most time off. A holiday on a Thursday plus one leave day on Friday gives a 4-day weekend. Try different dates and compare the leave days used.
Some employers count weekends and holidays that fall between leave days as leave (sometimes called sandwich leave). If yours does, use the total days away instead.
Leave balance
Most employers give annual leave that builds up through the year. Enter your yearly entitlement, when your leave year starts, any days carried forward and what you’ve taken:
- Earned monthly: entitlement ÷ 12 for each completed month. With 18 days a year, you earn 1.5 days a month, so 9 days after six months.
- Credited up front: some employers add the full year’s leave at the start; the calculator shows that figure too.
Results are rounded down to the nearest half day.
Entitlements differ
In India, earned leave varies by employer and state law; 15–21 days a year is common in offices. Many Gulf labour laws give 30 calendar days a year after a year of service. Check your contract or HR policy.

Frequently asked questions
How many leave days do I need for a holiday?
Only the working days in it. A break from Monday 12 October to Friday 23 October 2026 is 12 days away but uses 10 leave days with a Saturday–Sunday weekend, and you’re back on Monday 26 October.
How is earned leave calculated?
Usually your yearly entitlement ÷ 12 for each completed month. With 18 days a year, you earn 1.5 days a month, so 9 days after six months.
Do weekends count as leave?
Normally not. Some employers count weekends and holidays that fall inside a long leave (sandwich leave); check your policy and, if so, use the total days away instead.
How can I get a longer break from fewer leave days?
Plan around public holidays and weekends. Add the holidays in the calculator and try different dates to see how many leave days each plan uses.
