About these ordering numbers worksheets

Ordering several numbers extends comparing two: children must compare place by place across a whole set. Each question lists five numbers to write in ascending (smallest to greatest) or descending order.

Choose 2-, 3- or 4-digit numbers.

Settings you can change

Each sheet has 12 questions by default (from 4 to 24), a name, date and score line, and an answer key on a separate page. Best for grades 1–4 (ages 6–10).

  • Number size: 2 digits, 3 digits, 4 digits.
  • Order: Smallest to greatest, Greatest to smallest.

Teaching tips

  • Cross out each number as it’s written in order.
  • Find the smallest first, then the next smallest.
  • Teach the words ascending and descending.

New questions every time

The questions are written by rules on your device, not picked from a fixed sheet, so every tap of “New worksheet” gives a different set. Nothing is uploaded. Explore all math worksheets.

Frequently asked questions

What’s the difference between ascending and descending?

Ascending goes up from smallest to greatest; descending goes down from greatest to smallest.

Is it really free to print?

Yes. There’s no signup and no limit. The worksheets are generated on your device, and you can use them at home or in class.

Which grades are these worksheets for?

Grades 1–4 (ages 6–10), depending on the settings you choose. Switch on “Big print” for younger children.

What is the worksheet code?

Every sheet prints a short code. Typing the same code with the same settings rebuilds exactly the same questions, so you can reprint a sheet later or share the code with another teacher.

Can I make a different ordering numbers worksheet for each student?

Yes. Tap “New worksheet” for a fresh set of questions with the same settings. Each sheet has its own answer key, so you can hand out different versions.
