About these place value worksheets
Place value is the idea that a digit’s value depends on its position: the 5 in 352 is worth 50. These worksheets practise it three ways: the value of a chosen digit, writing numbers in expanded form (352 = 300 + 50 + 2), and reading base-ten blocks.
Six-digit numbers use the lakhs place used in India; the place names follow the Indian system.
Settings you can change
Each sheet has 15 questions by default (from 4 to 30), a name, date and score line, and an answer key on a separate page. Best for grades 1–5 (ages 6–11).
- Type: Value of a digit, Expanded form, Base-ten blocks.
- Number size: 2 digits, 3 digits, 4 digits, 5 digits, 6 digits.
Teaching tips
- Use a place-value chart with column headings while learning.
- Read numbers aloud in words to reinforce each place.
- Link expanded form to column addition.
New questions every time
The questions are written by rules on your device, not picked from a fixed sheet, so every tap of “New worksheet” gives a different set. Nothing is uploaded. Explore all math worksheets.
Frequently asked questions
Do the worksheets use lakhs or hundred thousands?
Six-digit numbers name the sixth place “lakhs”, as taught in Indian schools. The values are the same in any system.
Which grades are these worksheets for?
Grades 1–5 (ages 6–11), depending on the settings you choose. Switch on “Big print” for younger children.
Does every worksheet come with an answer key?
Yes. The answers print on a separate page at the end of the PDF. Switch “Answer key” off if you only want the questions.
What is the worksheet code?
Every sheet prints a short code. Typing the same code with the same settings rebuilds exactly the same questions, so you can reprint a sheet later or share the code with another teacher.
Is it really free to print?
Yes. There’s no signup and no limit. The worksheets are generated on your device, and you can use them at home or in class.
