About these addition worksheets
Addition practice works best when it matches exactly what a child is learning: single digits first, then two-digit sums without carrying, then regrouping. These worksheets let you set the size of each number and whether carrying is needed, and print the sums in columns (stacked) or in a line.
Column layout builds place-value habits; in-line sums encourage mental strategies such as making ten.
Settings you can change
Each sheet has 30 questions by default (from 6 to 60), a name, date and score line, and an answer key on a separate page. Best for kindergarten to grade 4 (ages 5–10).
- First number: 1 digit, 2 digits, 3 digits, 4 digits, 5 digits.
- Second number: 1 digit, 2 digits, 3 digits, 4 digits, 5 digits.
- Carrying: Mixed, With carrying, No carrying.
- Layout: Column (stacked), In a line.
Teaching tips
- Start with “No carrying” until children are confident, then switch to “With carrying”.
- Ask children to estimate the answer before working it out.
- Time a sheet once a week to show progress, not to pressure.
New questions every time
The questions are written by rules on your device, not picked from a fixed sheet, so every tap of “New worksheet” gives a different set. Nothing is uploaded. Explore all math worksheets.
Frequently asked questions
What does “with carrying” mean?
Carrying (also called regrouping) happens when a column adds up to 10 or more, like 27 + 15, where 7 + 5 = 12 carries a ten into the next column.
Does every worksheet come with an answer key?
Yes. The answers print on a separate page at the end of the PDF. Switch “Answer key” off if you only want the questions.
Can I make a different addition worksheet for each student?
Yes. Tap “New worksheet” for a fresh set of questions with the same settings. Each sheet has its own answer key, so you can hand out different versions.
What is the worksheet code?
Every sheet prints a short code. Typing the same code with the same settings rebuilds exactly the same questions, so you can reprint a sheet later or share the code with another teacher.
Which grades are these worksheets for?
Kindergarten to grade 4 (ages 5–10), depending on the settings you choose. Switch on “Big print” for younger children.
