How to scan a QR code
- 1
Upload a screenshot or photo that contains a QR code, or tap “Use camera”.
- 2
Atifo finds the code and shows what’s inside: a link, Wi-Fi details, a contact or a payment.
- 3
Copy the details, or open the link after checking where it goes.
Scan codes your camera can’t reach
Phone cameras are great at scanning codes in front of them, but not codes on your own screen: a QR sent on WhatsApp, shown in an email, or saved in your gallery. Upload a screenshot or photo here and Atifo finds the code and shows what’s inside. On a laptop, use the webcam with “Use camera”.
A QR code reader online and QR scanner: scan a QR code from an image or scan a QR code from a screenshot, or scan a QR code online with your camera.
Understand before you open
The scanner explains what the code contains instead of jumping straight to it:
- Links show the website name separately, so you can spot look-alike domains before opening.
- Wi-Fi codes show the network name, security type and password, handy for connecting a laptop.
- Contacts list the name, phone and email.
- UPI codes show who you’d be paying and any fixed amount.
Nothing opens automatically. Copy any field, or open the link yourself.
Stay safe from QR scams
Fraudsters stick fake codes over real ones on parking meters, posters and restaurant tables, and send “scan to receive money” codes. Remember: you never need to scan a code or enter your UPI PIN to receive money. Check the website name, and when in doubt, don’t open it.
Private scanning
Images and camera frames are analysed in your browser and never uploaded. The camera switches off as soon as a code is found. Need to make a code instead? Use the QR code generator.
Frequently asked questions
How do I scan a QR code that’s on my own phone screen?
Take a screenshot of it and upload the screenshot here. This is handy for codes sent on WhatsApp or shown inside apps.
Can I see a Wi-Fi password from a QR code?
Yes. Scan a Wi-Fi code and tap the eye icon to show the password, or copy it to connect another device like a laptop.
Is it safe to scan QR codes?
Scanning is safe; opening is where risk lies. Atifo shows the website name before you open a link and never opens it automatically. Fake codes are sometimes stuck over real ones on posters and parking meters.
Is my camera video uploaded?
No. Frames are analysed in your browser and discarded immediately. The camera turns off as soon as a code is found.
