About these word problems worksheets

Word problems ask children to decide which operation to use, which is often harder than the arithmetic itself. Problems use everyday settings (stickers, mangoes, school buses, saving money) with names and numbers that change each time. Choose the operations, the size of numbers, or two-step problems.

Settings you can change

Each sheet has 8 questions by default (from 3 to 16), a name, date and score line, and an answer key on a separate page. Best for grades 1–5 (ages 6–11).

  • Operations: Add and subtract, Multiply and divide, All four, Two-step problems.
  • Numbers: Up to 20, Up to 100, Up to 1,000.

Teaching tips

  • Underline the question and circle the numbers.
  • Draw a quick picture or bar model.
  • Check the answer makes sense in the story.

New questions every time

The questions are written by rules on your device, not picked from a fixed sheet, so every tap of “New worksheet” gives a different set. Nothing is uploaded. Explore all math worksheets.

Frequently asked questions

Is there space to show working?

Yes. Each problem has ruled lines for working and an answer line.

Does every worksheet come with an answer key?

Yes. The answers print on a separate page at the end of the PDF. Switch “Answer key” off if you only want the questions.

What is the worksheet code?

Every sheet prints a short code. Typing the same code with the same settings rebuilds exactly the same questions, so you can reprint a sheet later or share the code with another teacher.

Is it really free to print?

Yes. There’s no signup and no limit. The worksheets are generated on your device, and you can use them at home or in class.

Can I make a different word problems worksheet for each student?

Yes. Tap “New worksheet” for a fresh set of questions with the same settings. Each sheet has its own answer key, so you can hand out different versions.
