How to merge PDF files

  1. 1

Tap “Choose files” and pick two or more PDFs, or drop them onto the box.

  2. 2

Drag the files into the order you want, or sort them A–Z.

  3. 3

Optional: open “All pages” to reorder, rotate or remove single pages.

  4. 4

Tap “Merge PDF” and download your combined file.

When merging PDFs helps

Merging is the quickest way to turn a pile of separate documents into one tidy file. Job seekers combine a CV, cover letter and certificates into a single attachment. Students join lecture notes from different weeks. Landlords and tenants bundle ID proofs, payslips and an agreement for a rental application. Forms that accept only one upload become much easier when everything is in one PDF.

Whether you call it a PDF merger, a way to join PDF files or simply combining PDFs, it’s the same job: you can merge PDF online free here, with no limit on how often you use it.

Getting the order right

The order on screen is the order in the merged file. Drag files to rearrange them, or use A–Z when your files are numbered, like 01-intro.pdf and 02-chapter.pdf. Numbers are sorted naturally, so 2 comes before 10.

Need more control? Switch to All pages. Every page from every file appears in one grid, tagged with a letter for its file, so you can slot an appendix page between two chapters, turn a sideways scan upright or drop a blank page before merging.

Tips for a smaller merged file

The merged PDF is about the size of your files added together, because pages are copied as they are. If the result is too large for an upload form, remove pages you don’t need first, or compress the merged file afterwards.

Private by design

Your files are combined by your own browser. Nothing is uploaded, so it is safe to merge bank statements, medical records or anything else you would rather keep to yourself, even on public Wi-Fi.

Frequently asked questions

Is there a limit on how many PDFs I can merge?

You can add up to 50 files, each up to 100 MB. To protect your phone’s memory, the files together should stay under 250 MB. For bigger jobs, merge in batches and then merge the results.

Will the merged PDF lose quality?

No. Pages are copied exactly as they are, so text stays sharp and selectable, and images are not recompressed.

Can I change the order of individual pages, not just files?

Yes. Switch to “All pages” to drag pages from any file into any position, rotate them, or remove the ones you don’t need. Undo is available if you change your mind.

Are bookmarks and fillable form fields kept?

Page content, text, images and links on the page are kept, but bookmarks (the outline) and interactive form fields from the original files are not carried over. Fill in forms before merging.

Why can’t I add a password-protected PDF?

Protected files can’t be read without the password. Open the file in your PDF reader, remove the password or use “Print” → “Save as PDF”, then add it again.
