Make long documents easy to navigate

Page numbers help people refer to the right page in a meeting, a court bundle, an assignment or a printed report. Plenty of PDFs leave out numbers, though, especially when they are merged from several files or scanned. Add page numbers puts clean, consistent numbering on every page in a few taps.

Number PDF pages in seconds. PDF pagination is added as text on each page, in the position and style you choose.

Formats for every purpose

  • 1, 2, 3: the classic, unobtrusive choice.
  • Page 1: clearer for printed handouts.
  • 1 of 10 or Page 1 of 10: lets readers know at a glance that nothing is missing, which is useful for legal and official submissions.
  • Custom: write your own pattern with {n} and {total}, like Annexure {n} or {n}/{total}.

Start where you need to

Reports often have an unnumbered cover, and appendices sometimes continue numbering from another document. Use Skip first, a page range, and the Start at number to get exactly the sequence you need.

Accurate on every page

Numbers are placed on the page as it is displayed, so they land in the same corner on portrait, landscape and rotated pages, even when a document mixes paper sizes. The live preview shows the result on any page before you commit.

Clean and private

Numbers are added as real text in a standard PDF font, so they print crisply. Your document is processed in your browser and never uploaded.

Frequently asked questions

Can I skip the cover page?

Yes. Choose “Skip first” and numbering starts on page 2. Combine it with “Start at” if you want that page to show 1.

Can I use my own format?

Choose “Custom” and write it with {n} for the number and {total} for the last number, for example “{n} / {total}” or “Sheet {n}”.

Do numbers work on landscape and rotated pages?

Yes. Positions are measured on the page as you see it, so a number at the bottom right stays at the bottom right on rotated and differently sized pages.

Will the page numbers be selectable text?

Yes, for formats made of standard letters and digits. Labels in other scripts, such as Hindi, are added as sharp images so they display correctly everywhere.

Does this change anything else in my PDF?

No. Only the numbers are added on top of each page. Text, images and links stay as they were.
