How to convert PDF to PNG

  1. 1

Choose the PDF you want to convert.

  2. 2

Pick a resolution and whether to convert every page or only some.

  3. 3

Tap “Convert to PNG” and download the images, as a ZIP if there are several.

Lossless images of your PDF pages

PNG keeps every pixel exactly as rendered, with no compression artefacts around letters or lines. That makes PDF to PNG the better choice for pages full of text, tables, charts, diagrams and line drawings, especially if you plan to put them in a presentation or edit them further.

Choose PDF to image in PNG when you need sharp text and lines without JPG artefacts.

PNG or JPG?

  • Choose PNG for documents, slides, spreadsheets and anything with sharp edges.
  • Choose JPG for pages that are mostly photos, where it produces much smaller files.

If you’re not sure, try PNG at 150 DPI: text pages often compress very well as PNG.

Picking a resolution

At 150 DPI an A4 page becomes roughly 1240 × 1754 pixels, which is plenty for screens. Use 300 DPI for printing or detailed zooming, and remember that PNG files grow quickly at high resolution. Atifo shows the pixel size and an estimated total before you convert.

Consistent, ready-to-use files

Pages are rendered on a white background, exactly as they appear in a PDF reader, so they look right in any app. Files are named after your PDF with zero-padded page numbers (page-01, page-02…) so they stay in order. Several images download as one ZIP, and each can be saved individually too.

Private, page by page

Each page is rendered in your browser and then released from memory, so large documents convert without freezing your device. Nothing is uploaded at any point.

Frequently asked questions

When should I use PNG instead of JPG?

PNG is lossless, so text, charts and line drawings stay perfectly crisp. JPG makes smaller files and is better for photos.

Why are PNG files bigger?

PNG keeps every pixel exactly. Pages with photos can be several megabytes each at 300 DPI, so use 150 DPI unless you need print quality.

Do the images have transparent backgrounds?

No. Pages are rendered on a white background, the way they look in a PDF reader, so they display correctly everywhere.

How are the image files named?

Each file is named after your PDF and its page number, for example report-page-03-atifo.png, so they sort in order.

Can I convert a large PDF?

Yes. Pages are converted one at a time to save memory, and you can cancel at any point. Files up to 100 MB are supported.
