About this unit planner
A unit planner sits between the yearly curriculum map and daily lessons. It follows backward design: start with the big ideas and essential questions, set the learning goals, decide how you’ll assess them, then sequence the lessons and gather resources and vocabulary.
Turn the goals into a student-facing tracker with the learning goal tracker.
What’s on the page
- A header with unit, subject, class, weeks.
- Labelled boxes for Big ideas, Essential questions, Learning goals, Assessment, Key vocabulary, Resources.
- Lesson sequence: a table with columns for Lesson, Focus, Activity, Check, with rows for 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8.
Tips
- Design the final assessment before the lessons.
- Limit a unit to a few essential questions.
- Build in a mid-unit check.
Made to fit, then printed
Everything on this unit planner can be changed before you print: the title, the colour, the paper size and orientation. The page is drawn on your device and nothing is uploaded. Find more printables.
Frequently asked questions
What is backward design?
Planning from the desired results first (goals), then evidence (assessment), then learning activities.
Will it print well in black and white?
Yes. The layout uses light fills and clear lines that print cleanly in grey. Choose the “Grey” colour to save colour ink entirely.
What paper size should I print on?
Choose A4 or US Letter before downloading, and print at 100% or “Actual size”. Portrait and landscape layouts are both available.
Can I fill in the unit planner on my phone or tablet?
Yes. Switch on “Fillable PDF” before downloading and the PDF gets typing boxes and tick boxes you can use in most PDF apps. Or print it and use a pen.
Can I remove the atifo.app line at the bottom?
Yes. Switch off “Show atifo.app credit” in the Look section and the PDF has no branding at all.
