Plain text from Word documents

Copying text out of Word often brings hidden formatting with it: odd fonts in emails, broken bullets in web forms, stray styles in your CMS. Extracting plain text gives you just the words, ready to paste anywhere.

Convert DOCX to text: this DOCX to TXT tool saves Word to plain text.

Useful for

  • Pasting into online forms and application portals that reject formatted text.
  • Translation tools and AI assistants that work best with plain text.
  • Word counts and readability checks with the word counter.
  • Archiving the content of many documents in a searchable format.
  • Comparing two versions of a document with Text compare.

How structure is kept

Paragraphs are separated by blank lines. Bulleted lists use “•” and numbered lists keep their numbers, with indentation for nested items. Table cells are separated by tabs, so a table pasted into Excel or Google Sheets falls into columns. Headings become ordinary lines of text.

Batch extraction

Add up to 30 documents at once. Each becomes its own .txt file, and you download them together in a ZIP. Text is saved as UTF-8, so Hindi, Tamil, accented letters and symbols like ₹ are kept exactly.

Private by design

Your documents are opened in your browser and never uploaded, which makes this safe for contracts, HR files and student records. For PDFs, use PDF to text instead.

Frequently asked questions

What happens to lists and tables?

Bullets and numbers are written as • and 1., 2., 3., and table cells are separated by tabs, so you can paste tables into a spreadsheet.

Does it work with Hindi and other languages?

Yes. Text is saved as UTF-8, so every language and symbol is kept exactly.

Are headers, footers and comments included?

No. Only the main body text is extracted, which is usually what you want for copying, translation or word counts.

Can I count the words?

The result shows the word count. For detailed statistics, paste the text into the Word counter.
