How the Saudi end-of-service award works

When a job ends, the Saudi Labor Law gives the worker an end-of-service award based on the last wage and the length of service:

  • Half a month’s wage for each of the first five years.
  • A full month’s wage for each year after the fifth.
  • Part-years count in proportion to the days worked.

So with a last wage of 10,000 SAR and 7 years of service, the award is 5 × 5,000 + 2 × 10,000 = 45,000 SAR.

If you resign

A resignation reduces the award according to service (Article 85):

Service Share of the award
Under 2 years Nothing
2 to 5 years One third
Over 5 and under 10 years Two thirds
10 years or more The full award

You keep the full award if you leave because of force majeure, or if a woman leaves within six months of marriage or three months of giving birth (Article 87).

Which wage to enter

The Ministry of Human Resources defines the wage as the basic wage plus the other increases due, such as housing and transport allowances. Commissions and similar variable pay can be left out if your contract says so, so check your contract and enter the monthly amount it counts.

What this estimate doesn’t cover

Dismissal for one of the reasons in Article 80, leaving during probation, special contract terms and court rulings can all change the result. Use the figure to prepare for a conversation with HR, not as a legal decision.
