About this printable

India celebrates Republic Day on 26 January because the Constitution came into force on that day in 1950. The flag picture uses the correct 3:2 proportions and an Ashoka Chakra with 24 spokes, so children can colour it accurately.

Frequently asked questions
What are the colours of the Indian flag?
Saffron at the top, white in the middle with a navy-blue Ashoka Chakra of 24 spokes, and India green at the bottom.
Why is Republic Day on 26 January?
The Constitution of India, adopted on 26 November 1949, came into force on 26 January 1950.
How should we treat paper flags after the event?
The Flag Code of India allows paper flags at events, but asks that they are not thrown away or left on the ground afterwards. Keep coloured flags respectfully.
Which paper should I use?
Plain A4 or US Letter paper works. For cards, card stock of about 160–200 gsm folds and stands better; for paint or markers, thicker paper stops colours bleeding through.
